KRISTEN WIIG TO RECEIVE INAUGURAL ICON AWARD AT 2025 WIF HONORS

WIF (Women In Film, Los Angeles) has announced that Kristen Wiig will receive the inaugural Icon Award at the 2025 WIF Honors, taking place on Thursday, November 6 at The Beverly Hilton. The annual event, presented by Max Mara with visionary sponsor e.l.f. Cosmetics, celebrates women who are shaping the entertainment landscape through their artistry, advocacy, and vision.

KRISTEN WIIG

The new Icon Award recognizes storytellers whose creativity and unforgettable performances have captured the spirit of their generation. Wiig, a twelve-time Emmy nominee and Oscar nominee, has built a remarkable career defined by wit, originality, and emotional honesty — from her breakout years on Saturday Night Live to her record-breaking success with Bridesmaids and her current role as Maxine Simmons in Apple TV’s Palm Royale. The series has earned her another Emmy nomination and further cemented her as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and beloved talents.

“Kristen Wiig is the perfect embodiment of our inaugural Icon Award,” said WIF CEO Kirsten Schaffer. “Her singular voice and unforgettable performances have brought endless laughter and raw honesty to audiences everywhere. Whether she’s playing Gilly on SNL or Annie in Bridesmaids, her work has left an indelible mark on American culture.”

Wiig will be honored alongside an extraordinary group of women leading the industry forward. Tessa Thompson, known for her commanding performances in Passing, Creed, and the upcoming Hedda, will be celebrated with the Crystal Award for Advocacy in Film, joined by Nia DaCosta, the groundbreaking filmmaker behind Candyman and The Marvels, who continues to redefine modern storytelling. They share the honor with Dede Gardner, the two-time Academy Award–winning producer behind Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave, and Gabrielle Nadig, an independent producer known for Little Woods and The History of Sound, whose work consistently elevates underrepresented voices.

JUDY BLUME

The Crystal Award for Advocacy in TV will honor Mara Brock Akil, Judy Blume, and Regina King — three women whose impact on culture is immeasurable. Brock Akil, creator of Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane, and Netflix’s Forever, has written and produced over 400 episodes of television, mentoring countless women in the process. Literary legend Blume, whose 29 books have shaped generations of readers, remains a fierce advocate for intellectual freedom and creative expression. King, an Oscar and multiple Emmy winner, continues to shine both in front of and behind the camera, directing acclaimed projects such as One Night in Miami and Netflix’s Forever.

This year’s Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award will go to Jamie Lee Curtis, who will be presented the honor by Fonda herself. Curtis, fresh off her Academy Award win for Everything Everywhere All at Once, has balanced an extraordinary acting career with decades of advocacy, philanthropy, and her commitment to children’s health through her organization My Hand In Yours.

JAMIE LEE CURTIS

Rising star Maude Apatow will receive the WIF Max Mara Face of the Future® Award. Best known for her role as Lexi Howard on HBO’s Euphoria, Apatow is making her mark as a multihyphenate talent with her production company Jewelbox Pictures and her upcoming feature directorial debut, Poetic License, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The event will also feature a special appearance by acclaimed comedian Atsuko Okatsuka, whose one-of-a-kind humor and boundless energy have made her one of the most exciting voices in comedy today. Following her award-winning specials The Intruder and Father, Okatsuka continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her infectious charm and storytelling.

The 2025 WIF Honors, themed Unity, will be co-chaired by Victoria Alonso and Tracy McKnight, and will include presenters and moderators such as Karen Pittman, Francesca Amiker, and Mandalit del Barco. The event raises crucial funds for WIF’s education, career, and advocacy programs, supporting gender equity across the film and television industry.

Founded in 1973, Women In Film has spent over 50 years championing gender parity in entertainment. Past honorees include Lucille Ball, Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Ava DuVernay, Meryl Streep, and Zendaya — a legacy that continues with this year’s extraordinary lineup.
