HOLLYWOOD TO “RISE WITH PRIDE”: LA PRIDE 2026 ANNOUNCES THEME AND GRAND MARSHALS
Los Angeles is gearing up for a milestone year as Christopher Street West (CSW) officially unveils the vision for the 56th Annual LA Pride Parade. Set to take over the heart of Hollywood on Sunday, June 14, 2026, this year’s celebration moves forward under the banner “Rise with Pride.” Far from just a catchy slogan, the theme serves as a dual-purpose mission statement: a celebration of how far the community has come and a call to action for the work still ahead.
The 2026 vision is intentionally grounded. As CSW Board President Lawrence Carroll pointed out, while LA knows how to throw a party, the goal isn't to create a "Gay-chella." Instead, the focus is on building a year-round institution that prioritizes accessibility and service. It’s about ensuring that the joy of Pride is accessible to everyone in the city, from Hollywood to the furthest reaches of the county, balancing high-energy celebration with a deep sense of community responsibility.
This year’s Grand Marshals represent a powerful spectrum of visibility and advocacy:
Celebrity Grand Marshal: Emmy-winning actor and comedian Jeff Hiller. Fresh off his 2025 win for Somebody Somewhere, Hiller has become a standout voice for authenticity. Between his memoir, Actress of a Certain Age, and a slate of upcoming Apple TV+ projects, he brings a much-needed blend of wit and vulnerability to the parade route.
Community Grand Marshal:Mia Yamamoto, a titan of civil rights. From her birth in a WWII internment camp to her decades as a formidable criminal defense attorney and transgender activist, Yamamoto’s life is a masterclass in resilience.
Legacy Grand Marshal: The late Shirley Raines (1967–2026). In a poignant tribute, LA Pride honors the founder of Beauty 2 the Streetz. Known affectionately as "Ms. Shirley," she transformed the lives of thousands on Skid Row by treating beauty and self-care as basic human rights. Her passing in January left a void in the city, but her mission of "radical compassion" will lead the way this June.
For those planning their day, the parade kicks off at Sunset Blvd. and Highland Ave., weaving through the iconic intersections of Hollywood and Cahuenga. If you aren't marching, you’ll likely be found at Pride Village. Stretching along Hollywood Boulevard from Vine to Gower, the Village remains free and open to the public, serving as a massive block party filled with local vendors, nonprofit resources, and a yet-to-be-announced lineup of talent that promises to keep the energy high.
The "Rise with Pride" movement extends well beyond a single weekend in June. Through the Pride 365 initiative, CSW is rolling out a calendar of events designed to keep the community connected all year long. This includes Trans Self-Care Sunday on March 29, the Countdown to Pride fundraiser on May 2, and the official Christopher Street West Day on June 28. With applications now open for both the parade and the village, the invitation is clear: LA Pride isn't just a date on the calendar—it’s an ongoing effort to elevate and empower the LGBTQIA+ community across Southern California.
